F/S Fillies Go to the Wire |
| By: Lindsey Smith In Morrison’s final game of the Rockridge Sophomore Tournament on Saturday, December 18, they played Orion. The first quarter was sloppy for the Fillies. They still looked tired from the earlier two games. There were a lot of turnovers, especially off of bad passes and called traveling. Orion drilled in 11 points, while Morrison could score just three. In the second quarter, the Fillies out scored Orion by one point: 10-9. Going to the stairs at half time, the scoreboard showed Orion leading Morrison 20-13. The Fillies again outscored Orion in the third, 8-6. They were now with in five points. In the fourth quarter, the Fillies came up just one point short of tying the game. Morrison put in 12 points in the fourth, but it wasn’t quite enough to clear up earlier missed opportunities. The ending score was Morrison 33 to Orion 34. Morrison had 13 field goals, compared to Orion’s 12 field goals. Both teams made 7 free throws, though Orion attempted 15 and Morrison just 10. The only difference in the game was the one three pointer that Orion hit early in the game. Heather Andersen led the team in scoring with a total of 16 points. Brandy Stuart scored six points, followed by Jessica Scott with five points. Ashlie Patten put in four points. Trisha rounded out the scoring by knocking in her two-point shot. Heather had the best free throw percentage, swishing four of her five shots. Jessica was just accurate, nailing three of her four attempts. Ashlie shot from the line once, but couldn’t get it to fall. Morrison finished in third place in the tournament. by larryg |
