F/S Fillies Win 1st Game of R.R. Tourney |
| By: Lindsey Smith While the Varsity Fillies finished their tournament, the Fresh-Soph team was just starting theirs. They participated in the Rockridge Sophomore Tournament. Heather Andersen came from Varsity to help. In their first game, Morrison took on Monmouth. The game was close the whole way through, as the Fillies couldn’t quite get rid of them. After the end of the 1st quarter, the game was tied, 7-7. Heather scored all of the Fillies first quarter points. Morrison pulled away in the second. They held Monmouth to just three points while tacking on 9 of their own. The third quarter was low scoring. Morrison put in 6 points, and Monmouth scored five times. In the fourth quarter, the Fillies scored eight times, all of which were free throws. Monmouth added seven more. The ending score was Morrison 30 to Monmouth 22. Fouls were exactly even, as both teams had 18. Heather Andersen led the team in scoring. She had 17 points, followed by Brandy Stuart with 6. Ashlie Patten scored five times, and Lindsey Smith added two more. Both teams had nine field goals, but were Morrison won the game was at the free throw line. Monmouth attempted 19 free throws, but they only could cash in on four of them. The Fillies made 12 of their 22 attempts. Heather nailed nine of her 13. Ashlie scored on one of her two free throws, and Lindsey knocked in two of her five. Brianne Janssen shot two free throws, but couldn’t cash in on them. The Fillies next game would be against Rockridge directly following Morrison’s first game. The Fillies got down early but fought back to make it a game. by larryg |
