Varsity Fillies get 4 in double digits

By: Lindsey Smith
After the fresh-soph team (3-5) won the preliminary game at a score of 47-22, the Varsity Fillies came out very strong, putting up 17 points in just the first quarter. They held Annawan to 7 points. In the second quarter, Annawan’s Allison Dynes turned up the offense. She helped Annawan score 15 points in the second, but Morrison still outscored Annawan by two.

When the Fillies got to the third quarter, they would have none of Dynes’ offense. Morrison completely shut Annawan down, not allowing them to score a single point in the third. Going into the fourth, the score was Morrison 44 to Annawan 22. The Bravettes finally outscored the Fillies in the fourth quarter. Morrison’s bench got to come in and have some fun. They scored 11 points, while allowing Annawan 14. Jodi Medendorp had a little fun, too, as when the clock showed 10 seconds left, she thought that there was .10 left so she chucked up a half courter. (We all had a little laugh!) The final score was 55-36, in the Fillies’ favor.
Abby Vock led the team in scoring with 13 points. Michaele Vock, Jodi Medendorp, and Katie Tenboer had 10 points apiece. Amanda “Smiley” Smith followed with 5 points. Erica Sanchez, Sam Nye, and Kelly Tenboer each added on one basket. Heather Andersen followed with one point off of a made free throw. The Fillies had seven more field goals than Annawan, with 22.
Michaele had the highest free throw percentage. She shot 80% from the stripe, making four of her five attempts. Jodi knocked in two of her three shots from the line. Katie was two for four. Abby and Amanda put in one of her four free throw attempts. Heather made one of her five attempts. Erica went to the line two times, but couldn’t cash in on them. As a team, the Fillies were 11 for 27 from the stripe. Annawan only visited the free throw line nine times, and there they made five of them.
Fouls were almost exactly even throughout the game. Annawan lost one player due to fouls and had another that was just one away. Morrison didn’t loose any players, but they, too, had one player close to fouling out. Morrison was called for 17 fouls in the game, while Annawan had one more with 18.
Morrison had 16 total steals in the game. Amanda led the team in this category with four of them. Jodi and Abby each swiped the ball three times. Michaele and Katie stole the ball twice apiece. Erica and Heather each had one steal.
Amanda, and sisters Michaele and Abby led the team in assists with twice apiece. Cousins Katie and Kelly each assisted a teammate once.
Abby had the lone block for Morrison in the game.
The Fillies out-rebounded the Bravettes also. There were 57 total rebounds in the game, and 31 of those went to Morrison. 8 of the Fillies’ rebounds were offensive. Annawan had 26 rebounds.
Making 22 of their 56 shot attempts, the Fillies shot 39% from the field. They were 0 for 5 from behind the arc. Annawan shot a higher percentage, but they shot the ball 20 fewer times than Morrison did. Annawan’s field goal percentage was 42%. The Bravette’s also made one of their five attempts at the three pointers. That one was courtesy of Allison Dynes.
The Varsity Fillies moved their record from 4-3 to 5-3 overall. The Varsity girls are participating in the Deb Norman Tournament throughout this week. Right now they are in the winners’ bracket and are due up to play Fulton, the tournament’s host, next. The next home game for the Varsity girls is on December 21st vs. Erie. It starts at 6 o’clock with the Fresh-Soph team taking the court first.
