Freshmen Fillies take down Amboy J.V.

By: Lindsey Smith
With seven players, the freshmen Fillies headed down to Amboy to play in their first game of the week. It was just going to be a freshmen game. At least that’s all the Morrison coaches were expecting. But then again, you don’t always get what’s expected.

After the freshmen game ended, the Amboy J.V. team started their warm-up on the court, while the Morrison freshmen team found out that they were going to have to play another game because of some miscommunication. Most the Filly players were already drained, because they’d had to play the majority of the first game due to low numbers.
Amboy’s J.V. team seemed to be all smiles since they were getting to play a tired freshmen team. The Filly coach managed to get the time to be reduced to two halves of ten- minute running-clock play. At the end of the first half, Amboy was leading 14-8. They put in four threes in the first half.
The Fillies came back in the second half to score 11 points, while holding Amboy to just one more three pointer and a free throw. The Fillies won the game by one point off of two made free throws with less than five seconds left on the clock by Brianne Jensen. The final score was Morrison 19 to Amboy 18.
Ashlie Patten led the Fillies in scoring. She swished three field goals for six points. Jessica Scott scored five times, and Lindsey Smith put in four. Brianne and Liz Urban each had two points in the game.
Morrison was nearly perfect from the line. They made five of their six free throws. Lindsey and Brianne were both two for two. Jess knocked in one of her two attempts. Amboy was 1 for 2.
The Fillies had seven fouls called on them, while Amboy had eight.
Morrison’s J.V. team moved their record to 1-1.
