Freshmen Fillies Run Out of Gas

By: Lindsey Smith
Every player that the Fillies could take down to Amboy on Monday, December 6th, scored. There were seven of them, but even with everyone of them scoring, it wasn’t enough to stop Amboy’s Paige Lovgren from taking over the game. She had 22 points total in the game and was the biggest problem for the Fillies.

Morrison was right with Amboy in the first quarter. They headed to the bench down 10-11. In the second quarter, the Fillies tried to force too many passes and shots. They score 6 points in that quarter, while the Clippers added 11 more points. At half-time the score was 16-22.
The third quarter was better for Morrison. They put in 11 points, but they couldn’t hold Amboy on defensive. The Lady Clippers scored 14 points. At the end of the third the score was: Morrison 27-Amboy 36.
The beginning of the fourth quarter looked good for Morrison. The Fillies were scoring pretty easily, but towards the end, they ran out of gas. Amboy scored about 8 points in the last two minutes off of steals and lay ups. The ending score was Morrison 39 and Amboy 54.
Brianne Jensen scored 15 points to lead the team. Jessica Scott put up 9 points, and Liz Urban added six more. Lindsey Smith had four points, followed by Ashlie Patten with three points. Tristan Vander Leest and Rebecca Head each added another point. Morrison had 13 field goals total, compared to Amboy’s 20. Both teams had just as many fouls as they did field goals.
Brianne had the best free throw percentage. She made three of her five free throw attempts. Lindsey shot seven times and made four of them. Rebecca and Ashlie were each 50%. They each knocked in one of their two attempts. Liz put in two of her six free throws. Jess scored on one of her three trips to the line, and Tristan made one of her four. As a team, the Fillies were 13 for 29. Amboy was 7 for 9 from the line.
The Freshmen Fillies would go on to play Amboy’s J.V. team later that night in a game that they unexpectedly played and unexpectedly won.
The next freshmen game is this Wednesday, December 15, at Sterling. Game time is at 6 o’clock. That game will be a Frosh A&B game.
