F/S Fillies win big in Annawan

There was only one quarter that the Fresh-Soph Fillies didn’t score double digits on Annawan. They had only 13 fouls, and they made 2/3 of their free throws. Morrison shot 34% from the field. They ran their offense and held tough and aggressive on “D”. There wasn’t a lot that the Fillies could’ve been much better at in their 47-22 win over Annawan on Saturday, December 4th.

Morrison let Annawan score a bit more than they would’ve liked to in the first quarter. The Fillies put up 15 points in the first, and held the Bravettes to 8 points. They made up for it in the second quarter. Morrison shut out Annawan in the second until about 30 seconds left in the quarter. The Fillies added on 11 more points to take a 26-10 lead to the locker rooms.
During the second half, Morrison added 21 points and held Annawan to 12 points. The third quarter was the Fillies’ best offensively. They scored 17 more times and left the Bravettes to seven points. Annawan finally outscored Morrison in the fourth quarter, where they score five points. The Fillies experimented with some players, and got four more points.
Jessica Scott again led the Filly scoring brigade. She had a season high of 17 points. Jess had 7 field goals in the game. She was four for four in the third. She made three of her four free throw attempts.
Kelly Tenboer and Brianne Jensen followed with 11 points apiece. Kelly nailed four two-pointers in the game. She also shot five free throws and cashed in on three of them.
Brianne was perfect from the stripe, making four of four. Brianne hit two two-pointers. Brianne also had some shooting practice at the close of the second. She chucked up a three, thinking time was going to expire. She got the ball back off the very long rebound and banked in the three.
Ashlie Patten put in five points. She was three for four on her free throws. Ash also scored on a made field goal.
Lindsey had two points on one for three shooting. Hers came on a fast break lay-up. (As a team, the Fillies had over ten fast breaks in the game.)
Brandy wrapped up the scoring by knocking home one of her two free throw attempts.
Morrison made 15 two-point field goal sin the game, compared to Annawan’s 9. The Fillies also had one three.
Annawan made four of their eight free throws, while Morrison got to the line 21 times. There they made 14 of them.
“We did awesome on not so many fouls, with only 13. In our first game at Rock Falls we had 27!.” Tristan Vander Leest, #22, said following the game. “Annawan wasn’t very strong, which gave us time to try some new things or put people where they normally wouldn’t be, which worked well.”
The Fresh-Soph Fillies improved their record to 3-5 overall with this non-conference game.

P.S. There were two reasons that the team wanted to win this game. The first was because this past Sunday (which was really the day after our game) was Ashlie’s 15th birthday. And the other reason was because a former coach has recently been diagnosed with cancer. We hope and pray that he gets well soon.
