F/S Fillies have mystery second half

With an Amboy loss behind them, the Morrison Fresh-Soph Fillies looked to even their conference record at 1-1 in Prophetstown. They knew that it was going to be an uphill struggle for every second in the game, but they were looking forward to the challenge.

The Fillies played a very strong first half. They had just four points in the first, but so did Prophetstown. The second quarter was a little bit higher scoring. P-town put in 8, while Morrison was right behind them with 7 points. Things looked great. Things were going mostly as planned, until something happened.
They still don’t know what it was. They don’t know why or what happened. All they know is that it did, and it probably shouldn’t have. This thing I’m talking about is the second half. There’s not really a good word to describe it. Disaster is a little bit too strong, but heartbreak is a little bit too soft. P-town scored 14 points in the third. They proceeded to add on 17 more points in the fourth. It all might have been fine, if the Fillies could have somehow scored more than just five points in the second half.
Only five players scored points for Morrison in the game. Brianne Jensen led the way with 5. She put in two of her eight shots and one of her two free throws.
Jessica Scott followed with four points. Jess couldn’t get to the line in the game, so her points came as field goals. Jess nailed 2 of her 7 shots.
A.P., as some know her, had Morrison’s only three pointer in the game. Ashlie Patten’s shot came as the clock ticked down to the buzzer right before half time. The shot was big as it brought Morrison from down four to down by just one going into the locker rooms.
Kelly Tenboer was one for 11, as she, too, struggled from the field. Kelly made 2 points in the game.
Trisha Beswick wrapped up the scoring with her two-point basket.
Morrison only shot three free throws in the game. They could only cash in on one of them (P-town made six of their 14). As a team, they shot 8 threes, making one. Struggling from the field, the Fillies made six of their 34 shots (Prophetstown was 18-39). They ended the game with 16 points, compared to P-town’s 43.
Fouls were lopsided in the first half. Prophetstown was called for just one foul, while Morrison received six. In the second half, the Lady Prophets had 8 fouls and the Fillies had five.
Morrison moved its conference record to 0-2. They’re now 2-5 overall.
