Mustangs Go 1-5 in Sauk Valley Shootout

On Thanksgiving week, the Morrison Boys Varsity and J.V. teams had the Sauk Valley Shootout every night except turkey day itself. The first two games were held at home, where the Mustangs faced Bureau Valley and Sterling, and then it was off to Sterling to face Rock Falls, Newman, and Dixon.

The J.V. team started out the tournament with a win over Bureau Valley, 55-29, but the Mustangs were not able to follow suit playing a sloppy game with lots of fouls, falling 58-44.On Tuesday night, the Mustangs played Sterling. The J.V. Team came close, ending the game with a score of 40-49, but wasn’t able to take away another win. The Varsity Boys were dominated by Sterling’s height, but an overall lack of scoring left the Mustangs hurting for their first win. The game ended with a score of 33-63. On the next night, the boys played Rock Falls, but both games would be a blowout, with the Frosh/Soph losing 26-63 and the Varsity falling 28-58.

After Thanksgiving, The teams again traveled to Sterling to play Newman. The J.V. Team rebounded from the previous loss, and ended up killing the Comets, 73-31. The Varsity team did much of the same, with many of Newman’s starters away winning state with the football team. The Varsity team finished out with a big win, 49-18.

On Saturday morning, the J.V. team faced Dixon, winning 58-33. Later in the evening, the Varsity boys faced The Dukes for their final match up of the Sauk Valley Shootout. Mustangs took another big loss, 33-67. The Frosh/Soph Boys finished 3-2, while the Varsity Boys went 1-5.
