Fresh-Soph Fillies Drop Season Opener |
| The Fillies fell behind early, as the first quarter score was 6-15. Morrison held Rock Falls to just 12 points in the second quarter while adding eight more of their own to bring the half time score to 14-27. In the second half, the Fillies only scored 10 points, five in each quarter. Rock Falls proceeded to add 27 more points, with 13 in the third and 14 in the fourth. The ending score was 24-54 Rock Falls.
In the first game of the 2004-2005 seasons, the Fillies took on th Lady Rockets of Rock Falls in the Sauk Valley Bank Shootout (formerly known as the New-Mor-Rock-Ster-Val Tournament). This year the Dixon Duchesses were added into the mix. The fresh-soph Fillies team was the first to take the court. The game was a fouling frenzy for the young team. Morrison had 11 fouls in just the first half of the game, where as the Lady Rockets had a game total of only 8 fouls. The Fillies added another 16 fouls in the second half to bring their game-ending total to 27 fouls. Scoring 24 points in the game, Morrison had more fouls than points. The fourth quarter seemed to take forever because the Fillies lost one player about every minute due to fouls. At the game’s end, four out of the five starting Fillies had fouled out. Rock Falls shot 39 free throws in the game and made 21 of them. Morrison only got to the line four times and fell short each time. The Fillies fell behind early, as the first quarter score was 6-15. The ending score was 24-54 Rock Falls. If you had looked at just the field goals made, the game would’ve seemed like a close game. Morrison had nine field goals, while Rock Falls had just three more. There were five total threes in the game. Three of them came from Rock Falls, but the other two came from Morrison’s freshman Ashlie Patten. Ashlie was the high scorer for Morrison with 10 points in her high school debut. Ashlie was the last Filly to foul out with 0:23.5 seconds left in the game. The second high scorer was the second to last Filly to foul out. Sophomore returning starter Kelly Tenboer left the game at 4:34 left to play. Kelly left the game with 8 points. There were only three other Fillies to score in the game. All three had two points. Two of these, sophomore Brandy Stuart and freshman Brianne Jensen, were the other two Fillies that fouled out. (Brianne: 5:07, Brandy: 6:31) Trisha Beswick, another freshman, had the other two points for the Fillies. Even though Morrison lost the game, they had a better field goal percentage than Rock Falls did by about 5%. Morrison shot an even 30% (9 for 30). Rock Falls was 12 for 47 putting them at 25%. “As a team we played well for our first game,” Ashlie said following the game. “The Lady Rockets are a very tough and aggressive team, but we never got down or gave up.
