Fresh-Soph Fillies Win Morale Game |
The Dixon game in the Sauk Valley Bank Shootout was a big game for the Fresh-Soph Fillies. During the summer they had lost an embarrassing game to four Dixon players. So for morale, this game was huge. Upon looking out at the Dixon team, several of the Morrison players noticed that these four Dixon players that they had played in the summer weren’t there. That’s because they were Varsity players. A sigh of relief was breathed and a noticeable relaxation came over the team. That’s when it became obvious that the Fillies were going to play a good game. The game was a close one the whole way through. At the end of the first quarter, the Fillies were down by three. They came back to tie the Duchesses going into the locker room for half time at 20 all. In the third quarter, Morrison held Dixon to just 5 points, while scoring 9 of their own to take a four-point lead. The fourth quarter was won by Dixon, outscoring the Fillies 8-10, but the game gave Morrison its first Fresh-Soph win of the year. 37-35 was the final score. Kelly Tenboer and Jessica Scott were both in double digits for scoring. They had 12 apiece. Kelly had the only three pointer in the game and made one of her three FT’s. “The game against Dixon went very well. They got a lot of run-offs and easy lay-ups. Our team needs to work on getting back on defense and rebounding. Our rebounding was a lot better than the Rock Falls game, though,” Jessica said. Ashlie Patten didn’t go silently either as she scored seven points also. She made 3 of her 4 free throw attempts. Brandy Stuart, Brianne Jensen, and Trisha Beswick followed with two points apiece. As a team, the Fillies were 4 of 13 from the stripe and 1 of 4 from the arc. They shot 47 times and made 15 of them to have a 32% field goal percentage. Morrison did much better on the fouling aspect. Dixon had 20 fouls while Morrison had 16. Morrison’s record is now 1-1. The Fresh-Soph Fillies’ next game is in Amboy. The game starts at 6. The next home game (at the MHS gymnasium) is a Frosh “A” and “B” on Saturday the 27th. That game will start at 9:00 a.m. We hope to see you soon! by lsmith |
