Jessica Scott posts 13 points in F/S loss.

The first quarter was low scoring. Newman came to the benches with a one point led over Morrison, 5-4. The Lady Comets then broke the game wide open in the second. They scored 18 points, and held the Fillies to just four. Morrison was down 8-23 at halftime. In the third quarter, the Fillies picked up the defense a little, returning the favor of just four points to Newman. Morrison scored seven in that quarter. This was the only quarter that the Fillies would outscore the Lady Comets. During the fourth, Morrison scored their game high of 9 points in a quarter, but Newman put in 12. The Fillies had quite a few fast breaks in the quarter. The game ended at a score of 24-39.

At 7:50 in the morning, the Fresh-Soph Fillies rubbed their eyes, yawned, and hopped on the bus that was designated for Newman High School. This team was not an early bird team. “The game against Newman was a change in setting,” said guard Trisha Beswick. “It was our first morning game and we all seemed tired.”
Though the Fillies seemed tired and sluggish at first, they eventually woke up, but not until the second half.
“Our defense was behind and Newman made a lot of fast breaks,” Trisha continued. “We seemed a little lost on offense at the beginning.” The first quarter was low scoring. Newman came to the benches with a one point led over Morrison, 5-4. The Lady Comets then broke the game wide open in the second. They scored 18 points, and held the Fillies to just four. Morrison was down 8-23 at halftime.
“After the half, we played strong. We tightened the score, but then fell behind.” Just as Trisha said, in the third quarter, the Fillies picked up the defense a little, returning the favor of just four points to Newman.
Jessica Scott, a freshman forward, was the Filly hot hand of the game. She had over half of the Fillies points with 13. Jessica was a nuisance inside for Newman, and she was sent to the line for 10 free throws total in the game. The rest of the team combined to shoot 10 from the line. Jess put in five of her ten, but her teammates struggled from the stripe.
Following Jessica in scoring was sophomore Kelly Tenboer. Kelly had seven points. She was the only Filly that nailed a shot from behind the line. Kelly made it to the free throw line twice, but couldn’t cash in.
Ashlie Patten, a freshman point guard, attained two points in the game.
Brandy Stuart (sophomore post) knocked in one of her fourth free throw attempts to score one point in the game.
Liz Urban (sophomore guard) drained one of her two free throws to give her her first score of the year.
Morrison’s field goal percentage showed you that this team was not a morning team. They couldn’t get their shots to fall as they finished with just a 15% field goal percentage.
The fouling was a good story for the Fillies, however. They had just 14 fouls total in the game, while Newman committed 15. Both teams had 8 fouls in the first half.
The Fresh-Soph Fillies moved their record to 1-3 with the conclusion of this game. Later in the day, they would play Bureau Valley, in hopes of moving their record to 2-3.
