F/S Fillies Ride In Front of Storm |
| After the rude awaking from Newman earlier that day, the Fresh-Soph Fillies were determined to finish the SV Bank Shootout strongly. They were looking for their second win in the tournament. It’s been quite a while since Morrison’s had a chance to have a 2 in the “W” column coming out of this tournament. The Fillies were taking on the Bureau Valley Storm for their fifth game.
At the end of every quarter, the Fillies were in the lead. In the first, Morrison put up 12 points and held the Storm to 8 points. The Fillies added 12 more in the second, but let up a little on “D”. B.V. scored 11 in that quarter to head to halftime down 24-19. The Strom crept up on the Fillies in the second half. Morrison was outscored by one point in both the third and fourth quarters. In the third the scoreboard showed Morrison still in the lead with 35 points, but B.V. was right behind them with 31. The fourth quarter was a scoring whirl. Both teams had nearly 20 points scored in just that quarter. The Fillies put in 17, while the Storm gained 18 more points. The score stopped with Morrison on the number 52, and B.V. on 49. Morrison had all of its scoring come from its starters. There were two of them in double figures, another with eight points, and the last two put in six points apiece. Kelly Tenboer led the team in scoring. Kelly had seven field goals in the game, all of them inside the arc. She added 3 free throws to give her a 17-point total, high for her so far this season. Jessica Scott was right behind Kelly with 15 points. Jess also made three free throws, but she had one less field goal than Kelly. Jess had a good shooting night, as she went 6-12 from the field. Ashlie Patten had one of her better games. She scored eight points, two of which came from free throws. Ashlie made three more baskets in the game, each worth two points. Brandy Stuart and Brianne Jensen each put in six points for the Fillies. Brandy knocked in three shots in five tries. Brianne, too, shot five times. She made two of them and put in both of her free throws. As a team, the Fillies were 10 of 18 from the free throw line (56%). Morrison almost made it over 50% FG percentage, also. They shot 44 times and dropped 21 of them in the hoop, which gave the 48% shooting from the field. Fouls were a little higher than would have been liked. Morrison had 22 fouls, 12 of which came from the first half. Bureau Valley looked like they were going to have their fouls under control until the second half. There they had 14 of their 21 fouls called. This game had a few firsts for the young Fillies team. This was the first game that Morrison scored over 10 points in every quarter. This was also the first game that they combined to score over 50 points. The Fresh-Soph Fillies’ record is now 2-3. They finished the SV Bank Shootout in fourth, beating Dixon and Bureau Valley. by lsmith |
