Vock Sisters Named to Tournament Team

At the end of the first quarter, the score was tied between the Morrison Fillies and the Bureau Valley Storm in the fifth and final game of the Sauk Valley Bank Shootout. The score was 13 all. The game looked like it was going to be a close one, but in the second quarter the Fillies pulled ahead by 6. Going to the locker room, Morrison led 29-23 over B.V. The Fillies came back to the court for the third quarter and added four more points to their lead. Morrison had a comfortable cushion going into the fourth, leading 42-32. The Fillies scored seven more point before the game was over, while allowing B.V. just five more points. The ending score showed a victory for Morrison: 49-37.

The Vock sisters, Abby and Michaele, had awesome games. They combined to score 30 points. Michaele led the team with 17 points. She made eight field goals and one of her five free throws. Michaele also snatched up four rebounds.
Abby scored 13 points behind her sister. She led the team in steals with four. That ended up being half of Morrison’s total number of steals. Abby also grabbed two rebounds. She had the best FT percentage, making 5 of her 8 attempts from the line. Abby was 100% from behind the three-point arc (2 for 2).
Heather Anderson was also in double-digits for the Fillies. She had 11 points. Heather brought in six rebounds and stole the ball twice. She sunk 3 of her 8 attempted free throws in the game. Heather also had the only Filly blocks with two.
Next in line for scoring was Jodi Medendorp. Jodi scored four points. She was 0 for 1 from the free throw stripe. Jodi led the team (along with Katie Tenboer) with 7 rebounds. Jodi also swiped the ball from the Storm once.
Cousins Katie and Kelly Tenboer score two points apiece. Katie pulled in 7 rebounds, while stripping the basketball once. Kelly had one rebound to go along with her 1 for 1 field goal shooting.
Erica Sanchez and Laura Stralow each added one more rebound to move Morrison’s rebound total up to 29.
Bureau Valley out rebounded Morrison by one rebound. The Storm had 30 boards while Morrison held to 29.
The Fillies brought their turnovers down from 27 in the last game to 15 this game.
The Storm attempted 9 three pointers, making just two of them. Morrison, on the other hand, shot 2 for 3 from behind the arc. B.V. made 13 of their attempted 57 shots, leaving them at 23% field goal percentage. Morrison was 19 for 45 from the field (42%). The Fillies record is now 2-3. They’re already off to a better start than last year. (Last year’s record after this tournament was 1-4.)
The next game for the Varsity team is this Tuesday at Amboy. They will be following the Fresh-Soph game, which starts at 6. Varsity will probably start at 7:30 or so. The next home game for the Varsity team is Tuesday the 21st of December vs. Erie. That game also starts at 6.
