Varsity Fillies Tamed by Warriors.

The two Vock sisters tried hard to pull out a win for the Fillies against Sterling last Friday in the Sauk Valley Shootout Tournament, but all it took was one Carbaugh to take the win from the Fillies.

Sterling had three players in double figures. Sophomore Devon Carbaugh led the scoring with 17. Cox had 10 points, as did S. Scaff. The Fillies only had one player with double digits, Michaele Vock. Her younger sister Abby followed her with 9 points.
The first quarter looked wonderful for the Fillies. They led Sterling 11-8 in the first quarter, but once again that second quarter came back to haunt them. Sterling turned on the heat and scored 19 in the second. Morrison managed to get 8 points to head to the locker room behind 27-19. Sterling cooled off a smidgen in the third and only scored 15 points, but they didn’t let Morrison get past 7 points. The Fillies finally broke free in the fourth quarter to have their biggest quarter of the game. They put in 15 points to give them a score of 41, but Sterling added 18 more to their score. The ending game score was Morrison 41 and Sterling 60.
Michaele led the Fillies in scoring with 11 points. She shot two of Morrison’s 11 free throws that they earned in the game and made one. Michaele also assisted a teammate once and stole the ball twice. She snatched up five rebounds while she was at it to lead the team in rebounds.
Abby followed with 9 points. She led the team in steals with 3. Abby grabbed the same number of rebounds as number of steals she had. She also made one assist. Abby was 2 for 5 at the free throw line. She made half of the Fillies’ free throws. Abby made the only Filly 3-pointer.
Katie Tenboer scored 6 points off of three field goals. Kate brought in two rebounds and had one steal before fouling out.
Heather also fouled out. She put in four points for the Fillies. Heather rebounded misses four times and assisted a teammate once. She stole the ball twice, along with have the only Filly block of the game.
Jodi Medendorp and Kelly Tenboer also had four points. Jodi snatched four rebounds, and had one assist and two steals. Kelly was 0 for 1 from the FT stripe. She grasped two rebounds and swiped the ball twice from Sterling.
Erica Sanchez wrapped up the Fillies scoring with three more points. She was the only Filly that was 100% from the free throw line. Erica was one for one in FT’s. In addition to 3 points, Erica also clutched two rebounds.
As a team, Morrison was 4 for 11 at the free-throw line, while Sterling was 10 for 17. Fouls were even. Sterling was called for 14 fouls, while Morrison had the whistle blown 16 times on them. The Fillies had 6 fewer field goals than Sterling did with 18. Morrison was 18 for 48 in the field. Sterling shot the ball 56 times and made 24 of them. In the three point shooting column, Sterling was 2 for 6, while Morrison was 1 for 3. Sterling also out rebounded Morrison 33-22. Turnovers hurt the Fillies. They had 24 total, 15 of which came in the second half of the game. This was the only stat that went up for the Fillies in the second half. The Fillies move their record to 1-2.
