Varsity Fillies “Steal” the Game From Dixon

While the Newman Lady Comets had three players with double-digits in the fourth game of the Sauk Valley Bank Shootout, the Fillies could get none. Newman had 21 field goals, while the Fillies had 10. On the positive side, the Fillies controlled the boards, even with Newman’s J. Mellen in the game. The Fillies had 30 rebounds while the Lady Comets had 23.

Morrison started the game out with only four points. Newman put up 12 to take an eight point lead to the second quarter. There, the Comets added 9 more points, but gave up five to the Fillies. At half time, the Fillies were still in single digits for scores. It was 9-21. In the third Morrison finally broke through. They outscored Newman by one point: 12-11. The score was now 21-32. That’s all the closer the Fillies would get. Morrison seemed to run out of gas in the fourth. They gave up 19 points to Newman and scored 8 points themselves to end the game with a score of 51 to 29.
There was a big mismatch in the post play for the Fillies. Mellen stood over all of them by quite a bit, which was a reason why Morrison’s post players had difficulty.
Michaele Vock led the team with 8 points. She had nearly half of the Fillies field goals with four. Michaele had the same number of rebounds as she did field goals. She also had two steals.
Abby Vock followed Michaele with 7 points. Abby made the only three pointer for Morrison. She was also one of two Fillies to be 100% from the free throw line. Abby was 2 for 2 at the stripe. Abby grabbed six rebounds and had two steals.
Jodi Medendorp was the next highest scorer with 6 points. Jodi also snatched seven rebounds and stole the ball twice.
Kelly Tenboer scored four points against Newman. Kelly also had one steal in the game. She matched Abby at the free throw line making her two attempts.
Though Heather Andersen was held to just three points, she made up for it in other areas. This was the first game Heather didn’t foul out! (She only had one foul!). In addition to that, Heather led the team in rebounds. Heather clutched nine rebounds. Heather also stole the ball three times. She also blocked the ball once, to have one of the two Filly blocks.
Erica Sanchez scored her one point on a made free throw. Erica was one for two from the free throw line. She seized one rebound.
Katie Tenboer grasped one rebound in the game. Kate also led the team in steals with four.
Jessica Deets had the other block in the game for the Fillies. She also brought in one rebound.
Sam Nye brought the Fillies total for rebounds to 30 when she clasped her single rebound.
Together, the Fillies out rebounded the Lady Comets 30-23. The Fillies had 14 steals and two blocks. The number of turnovers was a little higher than what would have been liked. Morrison had 27 turnovers.
Both teams were one for seven from behind the three-point arc. Newman shot 48 times and put in 21 of their shots. The Fillies, however, were 10 for 41, giving them a 24% field goal percentage.
The Fillies record is now 1-3.
