Rachel Fedyk Signs National Letter of Intent to Swim

On Monday, November 15, Rachel Fedyk signed a letter of intent to swim at West Virginia University, located in the Big East Conference.

Rachel is a senior at Morrison High School, with parents Mark and Terri, and sister Meagan. She is from a strong swimming family, with both parents National Referees, and sister who is the head coach of the Clinton Kings and Queens Aquatic Association. Rachel was a member of the Morrison Seahorse Swim Club from 1993-2001. She has been a part of the Sterling Stingray Swim Club from 2001 until the present, and has been on the High School Girls’ Swim team all four years. Her favorite events are the 50 and 100 freestyle sprints, and the 100 Breaststroke.

Rachel has been recruited by many schools, including: University of Illinois, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, University of Minnesota, Ohio State University, Cornell, Kenyon, Emory, William and Mary, Bucknell, and Ohio University. She put serious consideration into attending University of Illinois, University of Nebraska , and West Virginia University, before deciding on West Virginia.

Individual and Team Accomplishments:
High School State Qualifier all 4 years; currently ranked 4th in the 590 free and 10th in the 100 free at the State meet being held November 20. She also placed in the top 20 at State in 2003.
Sectional Record Holder in the 50 freestyle 23.75, breaking a record standing since 1976.
U.S. Open Qualifier in the 50 freestyle.

Morrison High School Records: 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 200 Medley Relay, 200 Freestyle Relay, and the 400 freestyle relay. Rachel was named an All Conference Swimmer and All Area Swimmer for all 4 years, and is currently the team captain.

Long course 50 meter freestyle record, 27.33

Rachel is very excited about swimming at the collegiate level. When asked why she chose West Virginia, she says "I have a great connection with the coach, Sergio Lopez, and believe he can help me achieve my goals in the pool. The team gets along really well. The coaching staff if very encouraging and promotes good team dynamics. I will be majoring in Pre-vet sciences, and West Virginia has a strong Ag department. As for where it's located, well, it's all about the view!"
