Varsity Defense on a Tackle

Mustangs Smashed By The Comets

The Mustangs played their final regular season game on Friday, October 22, when they traveled to Newman to fight it out in the rain and mud. The Mustangs didn’t last long, as the Comets quickly took over and overpowered the Mustangs, moving their offense down field and scoring on almost every play, and stopping any offensive attempt made by the Mustangs.

Newman didn’t waste any time, scoring on their opening drive, and crushing the Mustang offense. At the end of the first, the Comets had the ball and were driving downfield, before the end of the quarter. The drive was ended with another touchdown on the opening drive of the second quarter, putting the score at 13-0. Before the end of the half, Newman again scored, but Morrison blocked the 2 point conversion, leaving the score at 19-0 at the half, with Morrison’s offense at a standstill, not getting a first down the entire first half.

In the second half, much of the same was seen, with the Mustangs helping out the Newman offense, throwing several interceptions and fumbles. On one of which, the comets scored again, and walked in the 2 point conversion to put the score at 27-0 going into the 4th quarter. Newman quickly put another score on the board, leaving the score at 34-0. Morrison had their first offensive spark in the 4th, with Doug Vandermyde getting a fumble, which was followed up by a great reception by Schisler for the first 1st down of the night for the Mustangs. Morrison couldn’t get another first down, and gave it over to Newman’s second string, who fumbled and gave Morrison the ball with one minute to go, but the game ended before any progress was made.

The game ended with a final score of 34-0, leaving Morrison with a final season record of 5-4. Saturday night, it was announced that the Mustangs would be in the playoffs, playing at undefeated Poplar Grove. More information as to when the game will be will be announced shortly.
