Mustangs Hit Hard By Peru/St. Bede |
| On Saturday, October 16, the Mustangs made the road trip down to Peru, where they faced the Peru Bedians. With both teams sitting on a 5-2 record, Both were looking for a win to place then higher up in playoff rankings. It was a very cold and windy afternoon, but the Mustangs again brought a great crowd.
The Mustangs started out slowly, going 3 and out on the first drive, but the defense recovered a fumble by Peru to give then the ball again. Greg Frickenstein got the Mustang first down, but Morrison was again forced to punt it away. On the returning drive, Peru’s offense flexed its’ muscles and pushed all the way downfield for the first score of the game. Morrison went 3 and out again on the ensuing drive, but the defense held Peru to punt, but it was fumbled and recovered by the Mustangs. The first quarter ended shortly after with Morrison’s offense on the field. Matt Kistler got the first down to begin the second quarter, but soon after Mitch Stoermer threw an interception. Later, Ryan Schisler punted off to Peru, landing the ball within the 2 with a few minutes left in the half. Peru took the long field as a challenge, and drove all the way down and scored on a quick out pass, putting the score up to 14-0 to end the half. Peru came out very strong in the second half, but was forced to 4th down, where they faked a punt, and ran in 25 yards for a touchdown, putting them up 21-0. Morrison was forced to punt again on the following drive, but the defense forced the same thing for Peru. On the following drive, Nate Vock threw an interception, giving them a first down on the 45. The Bedians drove to get 3 first downs before the 3rd quarter ended. The opening drive of the 4th quarter brought another 6 points for Peru, but the extra point attempt was no good, leaving the score at 27-0. Later in the quarter, Peru took over, scoring 2 touchdowns after many Mustang mistakes, putting the final score at 40-0. Nest week Morrison faces Newman Catholic at Sterling High School field, where the Mustangs will be looking to finish off the regular season with a win. The Mustangs current record is 5-3.
