Morrsion Mustangs Take First Official Loss to Amboy |
| By: Alli Vandermyde Morrison Mustangs kicked off to begin the game, with the Clippers starting on their own 26. Morrison defense held strong and they got the ball back, but the strong drive ended with Ryan Schisler punting the ball to the Clipper 39. The first quarter ended in an Amboy possession, with a score of zero-zero. The second quarter began with an Amboy punt to Sammy Biggs to the Mustang 30. This drive was ended in an interception by Amboy on the Mustang 16. From here, the Clippers score first with a field goal from the Mustang 9 yard line. Sammy Biggs returned the kick-off to the Mustang 24. The Mustang offence was forced to punt it off to the Amboy 23. An interception by Austin Rickles on the Amboy 30 brought hope again. But, a series of bad plays and a clipping penalty brought the Stangs to fourth and thirty on the Amboy 48. A Touchdown by Amboy with thirty seconds to go in the first half brought the score to Amboy 10, Morrison 0. The third quarter started without much excitement with the Mustangs returning the kick-off fruitlessly. Holding penalties killed the Mustang defense, as the Clippers drove the ball down the field. An interception in the Amboy end zone by Sammy Biggs resulted in a touchback. It was first and ten for the Mustangs on their own 20. Greg Frickenstein took the ball up to the Mustang 39. But that drive started successfully, ended in a punt to the Amboy 27. The third quarter ended with the Clippers on their own 41 with second and eight, score remaining Amboy 10, Morrison 0. The fourth quarter started with the Mustang defense holding strong, with a punt necessary, but then fumbled by the receiver on the return, on the Mustang 12. Clipper’s running back Garrett Luck bringought the ball to the one yard line and Eric Lindenmier brought it in for the Clipper touchdown. With the kick good, the score was now 0-17 with ten minutes to go in the game. The kickoff was returned by Matt Kistler to the Mustang 24. This drive was stopped by a strong Clipper defense. A failed fake punt attempt left the Clippers at first and ten on the Mustang 26. Garrett Luck took the ball in for the final Amboy touchdown, with that good kick the score became Amboy 24, Morrison 0. The kick was returned to the Mustang 31. This series was ended by a punt to the Amboy 34. The Clippers, though, were forced to punt also, and Sammy Biggs returned the punt to the Mustang 17. Greg Frickenstein ran the ball all the way up to the Mustang 41. The game ended with the ball in Mustang possession, but the score ended Mustang 0, Amboy 24. by larryg |
