RVF Forfeits, Morrison Varsity Plays Tuscola |
| On Friday, September 10, Morrison’s Varsity team was scheduled to play newly formed River Valley. The newly formed co-op was unable to fill a varsity football team, so only the J.V. squad got to play River Valley. The varsity team was left trying to find a team who didn’t have a game, and found Tuscola, a 3A school from downstate. With Morrison already having a win from River Valley, the game was an exhibition, where almost everyone had a good deal of playing time.
With the J.V. team taking a big win from River Valley, 41-0, and the varsity team getting a forfeit, both teams moved to 3-0. The Varsity game against Tuscola was an exhibition game, where Morrison tried a variety of new plays, and gave everyone plenty of playing time. Tuscola took a touchdown on the opening drive, but Morrison’s starting defense held strong until the end of the quarter, where the Warriors scored again, putting the score at 13-0 at the end of the first. Early in the second, Greg Frickenstein had a huge breakaway run, going 70 yards to score. Tuscola came back strong, however, scoring on the following drive, and again before the half, putting the score at 25-6. Kendal McDearmon had a great 60 yard run before the end of the half, taking the ball to the 15, where Marcus Hill finished off the drive, scoring 6 and the 2 point conversion, putting the score at 25-14 at the half. In the third quarter, the second string for Morrison did a great job of playing hard, with Roman Fernandez scoring, and only allowing 1 touchdown in the third. In the 4th quarter, Morrison was unable to score, but only held Tuscola to 1 touchdown, putting the final score at 39-22. Next week the Mustangs travel to Amboy, to try to get another conference win and to extend their records to 4-0. by larryg |
