5th Grade Colts Get Another Win |
| For the 2nd week in a row, the 5th grade Morrison Jr. Tackle Colts scored on their first offensive play of the game. The 5th grade Colts cruised to a win over Dixon–White, 37 – 0 on Morrison’s home field Saturday, September 4.
Morrison started the game on defense, but hard hitting and 2 big tackles from Landon Nelson quickly ended Dixon’s drive. Then, just like last week, Brandon Neighbour galloped 65 yards and scored a TD on Morrison’s first offensive play of the game. Quarterback Danny Dennehey’s pass to Mark McDonnell was good to get the PAT. Morrison was up early 8 – 0. The Colts’ defense was effective again on Dixon’s next possession. Matt and Mark McDonnell each grabbed tackles for losses, and Dixon was shut down again. Mark McDonnell came right back on offense and collected a 1st down with a run up the middle. On the next play, the ball was handed to Neighbour. Neighbour gained 16 yards and was almost brought down, but he broke free and cruised the remaining 19 yards for the TD. Mark McDonnell ran the ball in for the PAT. Morrison led 16 – 0. The Colts defense allowed no 1st downs in the first quarter. Shane Vos made a nice tackle near the end of the quarter. The Colts’ stingy defense was on fire again at the start of the 2nd quarter. Dixon got a first down, but tackles for losses by Kyle Heusinkveld, Matt Weets, and Landon Nelson, with an assist by Jacob Ruchotzke, stopped Dixon cold. On Morrison’s next series, runs from Mark McDonnell and Jacob Tegeler kept the ball moving downfield. Dennehey added a 36-yard run. Neighbour ended the drive with a 9-yard run and the TD. Dennehey’s pass to Mark McDonnell was good for the PAT. Morrison now led 24-0. Back on defense, Matt Weets came into the game and quickly collected 3 tackles. Matt Wilkens added 2 more. Kelsey Snyder and Zach Blasdell made tackles on the run to stop Dixon again in the 2nd quarter. On offense, Dan Crebo had a nice 31-yard run, but Morrison was unable to score again before the end of the half. In the 3rd quarter, Andy Schaver recovered a Dixon fumble on the Dixon 31 yard line to set up Morrison’s next drive. The Colts were on the move again with running from Luke Brands and Crebo. Crebo hit the end zone on a 9-yard run and got the TD. Morrison’s kick for the extra point was no good. The Colts were up 30 – 0. In the 4th quarter, Morrison’s defense proved effective once again. Dixon was unable to move the ball and gained few yards. Brands and Crebo continued to run on offense. Near the end of the game, Tegeler handed off to Brands who ran for 21 yards and scored a TD. Andy Schaver’s kick was good for the extra point. The final score was 37 – 0. The Colts defense was very tough again this week. All players saw action in the game again this week, and Defensive Coach Larry Brown commented that the 2nd string units played very well. He also added that it was nice to try out the kicking game. The Colts were pleased with being able to play on their home field, and they appreciated the good crowd in attendance.
