Morrison 9 –10 Boys All-Stars Complete Fine Tournament Season

The Morrison 9 – 10 Boys Little League All-Stars completed tournament play on August 1. The boys were tournament champions in Preston, Geneseo, and Prophetstown in June and July. The boys were undefeated in these three tournaments. They compiled a record on 14 – 2 facing 13 different teams from communities throughout northwestern Illinois and eastern Iowa. The team became know for their good pitching, aggressive base running, solid defense, and hard hitting.

The team shown above winning the Prophetstown tournament on Sunday, August 1 includes the following players, front row, l – r, Blake Blean, Matt Wilkens, Jeremy Brown, Brandon Neighbour, Danny Dennehey, Alex Volckmann, and Jacob Tegeler; second row, Kyle Heusinkveld, Andy Schaver, Brandon Belt, Daniel Willis, and Logan Kuehl; third row, Manager Al Schaver, and Coaches Terry Wilkens, Don Tegeler, and Bill Neighbour.

The Preston Annual All-Star Tournament included ten teams. Good pitching and great hitting led the team to wins over Rock Island, Clinton, and Fulton. Morrison played Clinton again in the championship game winning 14 – 1. The boys outscored opponents 55 – 3 during the weekend.

The Geneseo Boys 10 & Under Tournament was held July 21 – 25. Eleven teams competed in the tournament. Morrison defeated teams from Erie, Prophetstown, Fulton and Geneseo on their way to the championship game. The boys won an exciting game 7 – 6 against the good Geneseo Heat team to win the championship. Hard hitting, aggressive base running, and good pitching were Morrison’s strengths in this tournament. They outscored opponents 65 – 10. The team also won the base running and accuracy throwing contests held during this tournament. Morrison’s 9-year-old Daniel Willis took 1st place out of many contestants/players in the accuracy throwing contest!

The team finished tournament play July 29 – August 1 at the Prophetstown Annual “Dud Drummett” tournament. Nine teams competed in the tournament. Solid defense, good pitching, and hard hitting led Morrison to wins over Port Byron twice, Peru and Clinton. The boys defeated a good Peru team for the second time in the championship game. Solid defense was key in the 4 – 1 victory. The team outscored opponents 32- 8 during the tournament. Five Morrison players also combined to win the Home Run Derby at this tournament. Morrison’s Andy Schaver took 3rd place in the Home Run Derby.
