Fillies win Regional

The Fillies claim the Regional title for the third consecutive year. The Fillies won 2-0 over Lanark. Both teams had good pitching with Morrison pitching Monica Wright and Lanark going with Sara Delp. Delp struck out six, walking only one, and gave up six hits. Wright struck out thirteen, walked one, and gave up three hits in the win. Timely hits in the sixth and two errors by Lanark were all the Fillies needed for the win.

Wright took care of the first batter when she grounded right back to her. The next batters struck out. Laura Kophamer led off the first with a double to left, but was put out at third on a close play when Wright grounded out to short and Lanark’ Schriner, at first, made a play to third.

Darcie Johnson led off the second with a grounder up the first base line. Kayla Martz came in to pinch run for Johnson only to get caught stealing second by Jodi Medendorp with Michaele Vock at short putting on the tag. The next batter lined out to Vock and Wright recorded another K. In the bottom of the second Kelsey Dykema hit to left but was put out on a fielders choice when Medendorp grounded back to Delp.

Lanark went three up, three down in the third. Brittany Smith led off with an infield base hit to short only to be left on. Anna Ruch hit up the middle only to be left on in the fourth. Dykema had her second hit off the night only to be left on again. Lanark went three up, three down in the top of the fifth. The bottom of the fifth for Morrison had Vock and Smith ground out. Abby Vock entered the game and took a walk. Kophamer took the first pitch and Vock stole second. The catcher made a bad throw that went to center, Vock was sent to third only to get out by a good throw to third.

In the sixth inning Lanark’ first batter struck out. The next batter took a walk. She was moved to second by Ruch on the SAC bunt. The next batter lined out to Tricia Deter at first for the third out. Kophamer started off the sixth with a single just over second base. Wright moved her on a SAC bunt. Milnes pushed Kophamer to third with a hit up the middle. Dykema battled but went down swinging. Deter had a hard hit to short and reached on an error when the ball spun out of the glove scoring Kophamer. Cassie Hanson entered the game as a pinch runner for Deter. Medendorp reached on an error at second scoring Milnes. Michaele Vock took the last out swinging.

With a two run led the Fillies knew what had to be done. Wright struck out the first batter. Johnson had her second hit of the game falling into short left center. With one out Wright and Medendorp went to work with Wright striking out the next two batters and Medendorp holding the runner to first.
