Morrison Hosts IHSA Sectional Meet |
| On Friday, May 21, Morrison played host to 18 teams from all over Northern Illinois. With only a dozen on the team for Morrison, Morrison wasn’t shooting to win the meet, but they were hoping for many personal bests. The meet started promptly at 4:30 with the field events, and the running events followed afterwards, until the entire meet was stopped due to a large storm in the area. The meet quickly resumed when the danger passed, and the meet was able to conclude.
Morrison did not place in any of the field events. Aaron Ruter of Forreston won the Discus, David Strahan of Winnebago won the Shot Put, Jose Oquendo of Rock Falls won the Triple Jump and Long Jump, Adam Tate of Oregon won the Pole Vault, and Ted McMillan from Erie won the High Jump. In the 100 yard dash, Sammy Biggs took second in the Prelims and moved on to take 5th in the finals, sending him to state. In the 200 yard dash, Sammy Biggs again took first in the Prelims, but settled for fourth in the finals with a time of 22.7, sending him to state for a 2nd event. Morrison did not place in the 400, which was won by James Oleson from Byron. In the distance events, (including the 800 yard run, the 1600 yard run, and the 3200 yard run), Morrison’s Lewis Selman and Max Robertson did not place in any of the events. The Distance events were won by Brandon Mull of Rockford Christian, Jeremy Stevens of Winnebago, and Brandon Mull again in from Rockford Christian, respectively. Morrison didn’t have any qualifiers in the 110 yard hurdles either, which was won by Jordan Gorzny from Oregon. In the 300 yard hurdles, Sammy Biggs took first place with a time of 39.5, sending him to state in a third event. In relays, Morrison did not place in the 4 x 100 or the 4 x 200, and scratched out of the 4 x 400. In the 4 x 800, Morrison took 5th place, with a time of 8:59.7, but didn’t qualify for state.
