Mustangs Lose to E-P in First Round of Regionals

The Mustangs hosted the Erie-Prophetstown Panthers on Wednesday, May 19, 2004, for the opening round of regionals. Morrison had beaten the Panthers earlier in the season, and many thought it would be another easy win, but the Panthers had our pitchers in a bind, hitting everything they threw at them.

The first inning of the game was bad for Morrison, with Schisler throwing out 45 pitches and 4 runs scoring from the Panthers. The four runs came form Hayes, Young, Robinson, and Gage. When Morrison was at bat, they did nothing for either the first or second inning. Schisler stopped any runs from scoring from E/P by great pitching, and held out much of the same in the third inning. In the bottom of the third inning, E/P struck out the first 3 batters from Morrison. This would be the same story for the 4th and 5th innings also. The Panthers added another 2 runs to the score in the 4th inning, coming from Hayes and Young.

Vock came in as a relief pitcher for Schisler at the end of the 4th inning, and went 3 up and 3 down in the 5th. In the top of the 6th inning, Troppert and Young both had base hits, and scored from an RBI from Gage. At the bottom of the inning, Drosopoulos was walked, and advanced by a long shot into right field from Frickenstein. A sacrifice fly ball by Hook scored Drosopoulos and put Frickenstein at 3rd base. Vock Struck out, leaving Frickenstein stranded. In the 7th inning, Marcus Rumfelt went in for Vock and the Panthers had a hayday, scoring 5 runs and moving all the way through the batting order. The final score was 13-1.

The Morrison Mustang Baseball season is now over, and the E/P Panthers will now move on to play Rock Falls on their Field on Saturday, May 22, at noon.
