Fresh/Soph Fillies Take a Pair from Thomson/Mt Carroll/Savanna |
| On May 5 the Fresh/Soph Fillies took a pair from the Thomson/MtCarroll/Savanna Coop (TMS). The first game was a very tight game until the bottom of the fourth when the Fillies broke the game open with some very timely hits.
Andrea Vegter singled followed by a Alene Vandermyde single, followed by a Natashia Nelson single to load the bases. Lyndsey McDonnell singled in Vegter, Abby Vock singled in Vandermyde, Heather Andersen singled in Nelson. That was it for the scoring as the stingy Filly defense shut out the TMS to win the first game 3-0. Kate Tenboer notched 8 strikeouts in her effort. The nightcap brought out the best in the Fillies. TMS jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first and scored one more in the bottom of the second to bring the score to 5-0. The Fillies battled back. In the top of the third a tremendous offensive effort produced seven runs with two outs for the Fillies. Abby Vock was walked stole second and third. Jen Bush singled in Vock to break the scoring ice. Tenboer hit a stand up triple to score Bush. Vegter was hit by a pitch; Vandermyde was walked to load the bases. Natashia Nelson walked to push in Tenboer. Sam Nye singled in Vegter, Beka Head singled in Vandermyde. Nelson stole home and Vock singled in Nye. A pitching change in the top of the third by the Fillies brought in Jen Bush to relieve Tenboer who already had five innings from the first game and two from the second brought a three up three down on great defensive teamwork by the Fillies started by a caught line drive by Bush. The Fillies continued their scoring ways in the top of the fourth when Heather Andersen beat out an infield single Bush hit a fake bunt into center field. Vegter singled to load the bases. Andersen then stole home. Jessica Pell singled in Bush and Nelson singled in Vegter. TMS scored two in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 10-7. In the top of the fifth the Fillies added an insurance run when Vock reached on an infield single and eventually stole her way home. TMS was put down in order in the bottom of the inning by some great catches and throws by the Fillies to end the game with a final score of 11-7. The second game the Fillies had 13 hits. They made a great effort in the game and did not give up. The defense was also quite good. Tenboer finished the second game with three strikeouts and Bush had one. The Fillies are now 15-4 for the year and currently atop the Three Rivers Conference. Paul Vandermyde by anonymous |
