Fresh/Soph Fillies Avenge a Loss To Sink the Clippers

On May 2, the Morrison Fresh/Soph Fillies welcomed the Amboy Clippers to their home field. The Clippers had handed the Fillies their only conference loss so the Fillies came ready to play. Kate Tenboer took the plate with Heather Andersen catching.

Kate Tenboer notched three Ks in the top of the first to inspire the rest of the team. The bottom of the first brought Abby Vock to the plate, she arrived at first base on an infield single. Andersen followed with a single, and scored on a single by Andrea Vegter. This made the score 1-0 going into the second. The Fillies held tough again in the top of the second but did not score in the bottom. Leaving the score 1-0.

In the top of the third the Fillies hung tough again by not allowing a run. Vegter was hit by a pitch, Tenboer singled and stole second. Both stole home on a tough at bat by Alene Vandermyde who was eventually walked. The score now 3-0.

The top of the fourth brought another tough defense for the Fillies. Sam Nye beat out an infield single. Vock was walked, Nye stole home. Vegter singled in Vock.

The top of the fifth was another three up three down for the Clippers. When the fillies came back to the dugout Coach Bruckner told the girls to put their hitting shoes on. The Fillies responded with a huge inning. Jen Bush led off with a single, Lyndsey McDonnell singled, both Bush and McDonnell advanced with some heads up running. Jessica Pell was walked. Nye reached on a fielders choice. Vock hit a line drive that shook the whole defense up which scored McDonnell. Andersen singled in Pell, Vegter was walked to score Nye. Tenboer singled in Vock. Vandermyde hit a two RBI single that scored Andersen and Vegter to end the game 11-0.

Both the Fillies offense and defense did a great job and improved a lot over the last meeting. Tenboer recorded 11 strikeouts and did not allow a hit. The infield did a great job and the batting really improved with 12 hits in the game. The Fillies are now 11-4 for the year.
