Fresh/Soph Fillies calm the Storm

On April 14 the Fresh/Soph Fillies met the Bureau Valley Storm at the High School Diamond. Jennifer Bush started pitching and Abby Vock caught.

The Storm struck first with 2 runs in the first inning. In the bottom of the first Vock led off with a triple. Heather Anderson bunted her way on. Bush hit an RBI single, followed by an RBI single by Kate Tenboer. Andrea Vegter followed with an RBI single. This was later followed by a Jessica Deets 2 RBI hit.

In the top of the second The Storm scored two more runs. This brought the Fillies back to the plate. Vock led off with another triple, Bush doubled Vock in, Tenboer singled in Bush and scored herself on a past ball. Andrea Vegter reached on a single. Natashia Nelson was walked and with smart base running stole home. Alene Vandermyde singled in Vegter.

The top of the third brought a good defensive effort started by Dana Verdick who caught a low fly that stopped the Storm for a couple innings. In the bottom of the third Vock reached first on an error and Tenboer pushed Vock in with a double.

In the top of the fifth the storm came close to the Fillies by scoring four runs. The fillies battled back by adding two more to their score.

In the top of the sixth Tenboer took over the pitching with the bases loaded. With a good defensive effort the Fillies did not allow a run.

The Storm would add one more in the seventh to end the game with a final of 13-10. Tenboer would finish the game striking out 5 and adding 4 hits of her own. Abby Vock had a pair of triples and a single.
