The Morrison Varsity Fillies lose 1 win 1 |
| The Morrison Varsity Fillies traveled to Rock Falls and lost to Sterling and won against Rock Falls in the annual New-Mor-Roc-Ster. The Fillies suffered their first loss of the season to Sterling on an error and a fielder’s choice.
The second game of the day brought a win over Rock Falls on key hits from Laura Kophamer, Jodi Medendorp and Monica Wright. Morrison lost the toss and Sterling elected to be the home team. The Fillies took the field with Kelsey Dykema pitching. Dykema struck out the first two batters, gave up a hit to Alderfer, and then struck out the next batter. Alderfer took the hill for Sterling. Dykema led off the inning with what looked to be a hit only to have it taken away by the left fielder. Brianna Milnes was able to get a hit only to be left standing when Michaele Vock struck out. In the next three innings Dykema gave up two hits and Alderfer gave up a well hit double from Brittany Smith. The fifth brought a pitching change for Morrison with Brianna Milnes getting her first batter to ground out and she struck out the side to end the inning. Through the first six innings Morrison was making contact but nothing Sterling could not handle. Flufs walked to lead off the bottom of the sixth for Sterling. Milnes stepped up and struck out the next batter. Alderfer was the next batter and she had a hit between short and third. With runners on first and second the next batter hit to first, the first baseman tried to get the runner at third but did not. Milnes struck out the next batter. The next batter hit towards first, Morrison went home for the out, but the runner was safe for Sterling’s first run. Morrison’s Brianna Milnes led off the top of the seventh with a hit to left, Deter advanced her on the SAC, but that would be it for Morrison. Brianna Milnes had two hits. Brittany Smith had a double. Kelsey Dykema pitched four innings gave up two hits and struck out four. Rock Falls had Korby Paul pitching and Morrison had Monica Wright. Dykema started the game off like the last one with a solid hit to the outfield only to have it caught. Wright had a hit to right only to get out in a double play by Tate. The second inning brought some trouble for Morrison when Wright walked the second batter. Jodi Medendorp mishandled a pitch for a passed ball that led to a run when she tried to get the runner out, but over threw third for Rock Falls first unearned run. Morrison tried to answer when Smith and Kophamer both had a hit only to be left on base. Monica Wright settled in a grove in the next four innings by going three up, three down. The bottom of the fifth brought up Laura Kophamer, she was able to get a hit up the middle. Katie Kuehl had a SAC bunt moving Kophamer. Jodi Medendorp took her second pitch to right center for the RBI single. Dykema had a popup to the pitcher. Medendorp stole second on a passed ball and scored when Wright had a hit past second for the game winning RBI. Rock Falls had another chance when Tate walked and was moved to second with a SAC bunt. Wright struck out the next batter for her second win. Monica Wright had two hits, one RBI, struck out fifteen, walked two, gave up one hit, and had one unearned run. Laura Kophamer had two hits and scored once. Michaele Vock and Brittany Smith had a hit. Jodi Medendorp had one hit, scored, and a RBI.
