Morrison Track has Rough First Meet |
| On Thursday, March 25, Morrison Boys and Girls Track teams hosted Riverdale and Sherrard for their first meet of the season. With Sherrard and Riverdale already a few meets into their seasons, Morrison faced a rough night with the small numbers on both teams.
The field events were first, with Morrison doing well despite the fact that neither the boys or girls had any long or triple jumpers. Kelly Tenboer won the High jump, getting to 5’1”. Amanda Smith took second in the discus, throwing 88’5”, two feet behind the winner. On the boys side of the field events, Andrew Holt won the discus throwing 112’2”. Trevor Popkin took second in the shot put, throwing 37’8”, and right behind him was Dustin Vandermyde, with the best throw of 36’3”. In fourth place was Matt Vandermyde, throwing 34’9.5”. In the running events, the girls started off well, winning the 800-medley relay. In the 3200 relay, Morrison took second to Sherrard, as well as in the 800 relay. In individual events, Kelly Tenboer took second in the 100 yard High Hurdles with a time of 18.14. In the 400 dash, Rachel Fedyk took second, with w time of 1:06.43, just 13 hundredths behind Riverdale. In the 200 dash, Cara Akker took fourth with a time of 29.20. The boys started out taking fourth in the 3200 relay, with a time of 9:31.55. After that, Louis Selmon ran the individual 3200, getting a time of 12:06.73 and taking 3rd. Throughout the rest of the meet, Sammy Biggs was the only one to place in any events, taking first in both the 100 and 200 yard dashes. In the 100, Sammy had a time of 11.10, and in the 200 he had a 23.22. By the end of the night the final scores for the boys meet was: Riverdale, 77; Sherrard, 70; Morrison, 24.
