Fillies win first “home” game

The Morrison Varsity Fillies win their first home game. The game was scheduled to be played in Morrison but due to the weather the game was played in Kewanee. Since it was a “home” game the Fillies took the field first.

Monica Wright struck out the first three batters of what would become a pitchers duel. Kewanee’s Chelsae Wolfe started her night off the same way. Michaele Vock started the second with a grounder up the middle. She was moved to second by a sac bunt by Tricha Deter, Medendorp bunted foul for her third strike and Katie Kuehl ground out to the second baseman. Both pitchers sent batters back to the dugout until the fourth. Kewanee started the fourth when Mirocha reached first on an error at third, she stole second, but Wright took care of business and retired the side. Brianna Milnes reached first on an error by the right fielder only to get caught in a double play off of a line drive to first from Vock.

Kewanee’s next chance came in the sixth when Jenn Martinez put down a nice bunt that was mishandled by the catcher for the hit. Two passed balls and a walk had Kewanee’s runners on second and third with one out. Medendorp grabbed the foul tip for the second out and Wright put down Kewanee’s cleanup batter looking.

The seventh, eight, and ninth were three up and three down except in the bottom of the ninth when Kelsey Dykema had a hit to left. In the twelfth Kewanee’ Osborne reached, on an error at third. The next two batters sac bunted to move her to third. Wright stepped up again and struck out the next batter. The bottom brought Morrison to the top of the order when Dykema had what appeared to be an in the park home run only to have it ruled a ground rule double because it rolled under the fence. Wright had a sac bunt moving Dykema. Milnes stepped in and had a grounder off the pitchers glove to the shortstop, but that was all Dykema needed to score.

Wright faced forty-three batters, struck out twenty-eight, walked three, and gave up one hit. Medendorp picked off one of three runners stealing. Dykema had two hits. Milnes had the game winning RBI and one hit. Vock and Deter had one hit.
