Mustangs Lose Tough One to Prophets |
| On February 20, 2004, The Mustangs traveled to Prophetstown to play one of their final games of the season. With both teams struggling, Morrison hoped to come out on top by the end of the night. The Frosh/Soph team started off the night well by killing the Prophets, 56-34, which left the doors wide open for the Mustangs. In the first quarter, Morrison came out very strong, coming out to a 5-0 lead.
The first quarter continued on in a similar fashion, with the Mustangs keeping a strong lead the entire quarter. By the end of the first, the score was 12-7 in favor of Morrison. Scoring came from Mills with 3, Brewer with 3, and Matt Vandermyde with 6. In the second quarter, Prophetstown came out scoring 4 points quickly, putting them behind by only one. They scored again, and took the lead, but Morrison quickly countered, coming out to the lead again by 3 with a score of 18-15. Soon, the Prophets came back again to within 1, with 2 minutes remaining in the half, and by the end of the quarter they had regained the lead and taken a seven point stride on the Mustangs going into the half. Morrison scored only 6 points in the second quarter, coming from Brewer, Sharp, and Matt Vandermyde, all with two. In the third quarter, Prophetstown again came out strong, scoring 4 before Morrison put any more points on the board. Prophetstown continued to increase their lead throughout the rest of the third quarter, having a 10 point lead with 2 minutes to go in the quarter, with a score of 32-22. by the end of the quarter, the score was 40-24, with Morrison needing to play a lot of catch-up in the fourth to relinquish the lead. Morrison again only scored 6 points, coming from Brewer, Tiesman, and Sharp, all with 2. In the fourth, Morrsion came out with a spark, scoring 8 points within the first 2 minutes, causing the Prophets to take a timeout with a score of 40-32. With 1:57 left on the clock, a stray pass by the Prophets gave Tiesman an easy layup, bringing the score to 49-42, with the Stangs still trailing by 7. Morrison closed the gap to 6 with one and a half minutes on the clock. Morrison again produced well, scoring a flurry of 6 points in a matter of 45 seconds, bringing the score to 55-51 with just 30 seconds left for the Mustangs. In the final seconds, Prophetstown scored another 4 points, while Morrison only scored 3, putting the final score at 59-53. Morrison scored an incredible 30 points in the final quarter, with scoring coming from Brewer with 10, Tiesman with 9, Goessman with 7, and Matt Vandermyde with 4. by larryg |
