Morrison Mustangs Get Their Second Win of the Season

On Friday night, February 6, the Morrison Mustangs hosted Ohio for a game in which Morrison had a good chance of winning. Morrison came out strong scoring 8 before Ohio was able to put in a basket. Morrison let up the pressure on Ohio, letting them score 8 before the end of the quarter, but the Mustangs had already doubled their score with 16.

In the second quarter, the Mustangs again came out very strong, putting a lot of pressure on Ohio’s ball handling, in turn giving the Mustangs a lot of breakaway scoring options. Morrison brought the score to 25-11 with 5 minutes left in the half, but Morrison was just getting started. By the end of the half, the Mustangs had a score of 35, leaving Ohio down by 13 with 22 going into the half. Morrison had a lot of scoring in the first half, primarily coming from Casey Tiesman with 10, followed by Joe Mills with 6, Luke Goessman with 4, Matt Vandermyde, Dan Brewer, and Jon Kenseth all with 3, and Brad Sharp and Nate Vock with 2.

In the second half, Morrison produced much of the same as seen in the first half, being aggressive on the ball, running plays smoothly, and scoring. By the end of the third quarter, Morrison had increased their lead to 16, with a score of 47-31. Luke Goessman and Casey Tiesman led scoring in the third, scoring 4, followed by Matt Vandermyde and Joe Mills with 2.

In the fourth quarter, Morrison held Ohio to just 5 points, while the Stangs scored 12 before taking out all starters with near 5 minutes to go. In the final minutes of the game, Morrison’s second string held Ohio to just another 5 points while they took the ball down the court many times, scoring another 14 points before the game expired. Final scoring came from Tim Houzenga, who put up 8 points, followed by Casey Tiesman with 7, Luke Goessman with 5, Doug Vandermyde with 4, and Brad Sharp with 2. The final score to the game was 73-41, Morrison’s biggest win of the season.
