Fillies Take Out Clippers on Senior Night

On Thursday, February 5, 2004, the Morrison Fillies hosted the Amboy Clippers after their original game on Tuesday was cancelled due to Amboy’s snow day. This was Senior Night for the Fillies, which took place between the sophomore and varsity games. This year, the Senior Fillies are Amber Heller, Lindsey Morgan, Kelli Nelson, and Leanne Smith.

The Varsity game got underway starting with a lay up by Amanda Smith. Kelli Nelson Followed up the Filly scoring putting the score at 4-2 early on, but Amboy soon came back and took the lead by 1. A free throw by Lindsey Morgan tied the game at 5. Later in the game, Amboy brought the game to a tie after being down by 4, putting the score at 9-9 with seconds left on the clock. Amanda Smith drained a free throw to put the score at the end of the first quarter at 10-9. In the second quarter, the Fillies came out to a strong lead putting another 7 points on the board before letting the Clippers score any. The score at the end of the half was 30-15. Amanda smith led the scoring in the first half with 9, while Michaele Vock had 6, Amber Heller, Abby Vock, and Katie Tenboer all had 4, and Kelli Nelson had 2.

In the third quarter, Amboy quickly scored 3 points but Morrison matched every one of them, putting the score at 33-18. For the rest of the third quarter, Morrison only put up another 3 points, while Amboy became fairly productive on the ball, bringing the score at the end of the third quarter 36-25. In the final quarter of the game, the Fillies dominated the court, putting up another 12 points to their score, while only allowing 6. Morrison took out their starters with a minute left, and in the final seconds of the game, Heather Andersen scored 2. Scoring in the second half was led by Amanda Smith with 6, Amber Heller with 5, Abby Vock with 4, Michaele Vock with 3, and Heather Andersen and Katie Tenboer both had a pair.
