Sophomore girls win over Bureau Valley

Tuesday, January 20, the Sophomores Fillies win against Bureau Valley, who won by one at the buzzer the last time they met.

The first quarter looked like a grudge match with both teams hustling after the ball. Bureau Valley grabbed the first three offensive rebounds for their first scores, but Erica Sanchez and Heather Andersen made a couple of good shots to keep the Fillies in the game. Kelly Tenboer put up two more to give the girls a two point led at the end of the quarter.

The second was all Morrison. Kelly Tenboer stepped up for Jodi Medendorp, who was in foul trouble, by pulling in four rebounds and had several steals this quarter. Erica Sanchez put in four more along with four from Kelly and two from Andersen that brought the Fillies up by nine.

The third quarter looked rough for both teams, Morrison shot three of nine from the field and Bureau Valley was about the same.

The fourth quarter Morrison looked better, but could have opened it up if they could have done a better job making their lay-ups and putting in free throws. They outscored Bureau Valley in the fourth seven to six, which was enough for the win.

Erica Sanchez had a season high eight, with three steals. Kelly Tenboer also had eight points, nine steals, six rebounds and three assists. Katie Tenboer had seven, five steals, two rebounds, three assists, and was three for six from the line. Heather Andersen had six, two steals, two assists, one rebound and was zero of five. Lindsey Smith had two, two steals and one rebound. Jodi Medendorp had two points, two rebounds and one assist. Aimee Kyarsgaard had three rebounds.
