Varsity Girls move to 7-2 After Win Against Riverdale

On Saturday, January 17th, the Varsity girls hosted the Riverdale Rams. Both teams played very competitively for the first part of the game, but Morrison’s top-notch defense and highly productive offense led them to a huge victory over the Rams

Early in the 1st quarter, both teams held each other in a stalemate for more than two minutes, but it was Riverdale who came out first with a lay-up. Morrison quickly rebounded, coming back and scoring 7 points, and scoring another 9 before the end of the first quarter, while only allowing Riverdale to score 4 more, putting their total at 6 for the first quarter. Scoring on the Morrison side of the ball was a team effort, with Amanda Smith scoring 5, Amber Heller scoring 2, Lindsey Morgan with 2, Abby Vock with 2 and Kelli Nelson with another 5. In the second quarter, Morrison took control and dominated on both sides of the ball, leaving nothing for Riverdale to do. The score at the end of the half was 31-12, which was finished off with a buzzer beater by Heller. Scoring in the second was by Abby Vock for 5, Amanda Smith for 4, and Amber Heller, Leanne Smith, and Kelli Nelson all with 2.

Much of the same was all that was seen in the second half, with Morrison crushing any of Riverdale’s attempts to come back. The Score at the end of the half was 45-16. Michaele Vock scored 6, Amanda Smith had 4, Abby Vock had 2, and Kelli Nelson had another 2. In the fourth quarter, Morrison brought the score to 51 before they took out all starters and put in the rest of the team. By the end of the game, Heather Andersen had put another 2 on the board, putting the final score at 53-23. The scoring in the fourth quarter was led by Kelli Nelson with 4, followed by Abby Vock and Heather Andersen with a pair.
