Mustangs Lose in Late Game Rally by Prophetstown |
| On Friday, January 16, the Mustangs hosted the Prophetstown Prophets, their only game of the week. Having only won one game in the past, Morrison knew that they needed to start something as they headed into the second half of their season.
Morrison began strong, as they had in many of the past few games, coming out to a 6-2 lead, but let the pressure off for the rest of the quarter, letting the Prophets put up another 11 points, leaving the score at the end of the first 8-13. Scoring was by Matt Vandermyde and Dan Brewer, both with 4 points. In the second quarter, Morrison chased Prophetstown and although there was a lot of scoring on Morrison’s side, it was equally matched by Prophetstown. Scoring in the second was led by Joe Mills with 10 points, followed by Luke Goessman, Casey Tiesman, and Doug Vandermyde, all with 2. In the third quarter, Morrison took the lead early from a field goal and a free throw by Matt Vandermyde, followed by a shot from Tiesman to put the score at 31-30. Morrison soon sent the Prophets offguard, increasing their lead to six with just a minute left in the third quarter. By the end of the third, the score was 47-40, with Morrison in the lead. Scoring was led by Tiesman with 10, Mills with 6, M. Vandermyde with 5, and Goessman with 2. In the fourth quarter, Morrison came back, and finally took the lead, 49-47, with 5:29 to go. In the end of the game, Morrison came to within 3, but final attempts to stop the clock and a lot of fast scoring on both sides of the ball led to Prophetstown winning the game, 64-58. Luke Goessman had 5 points, while Dan Brewer and Casey Tiesman both had a pair. by larryg |
