“We’re Not Giving Up” |
| Coach Dale Trott put it best in that quote said at the end the fourth quarter when the Mustang Boys were down by 13 points with 5 minutes to go against the Amboy Clippers. The game started out with Morrison going on a 6-0 run, but soon Amboy came back and put the first quarter score at 9-7, with Morrison in the lead.
Scoring in the first quarter was led by Luke Goessman with 4, Dan Brewer and Casey Tiesman with 2, followed by Matt Vandermyde with 1. In the second quarter the Mustangs again came out strong stealing the ball a lot and scoring on offense. Casey Tiesman put in a triple to put the score at 14-7, successfully doubling Amboy’s score. Morrison put another 2 points on the board before Amboy went on a scoring streak of their own, putting in 9 points and tying the score at 16. Morrison eased up the pressure on Amboy and lost the ball multiple times at the end of the half, letting the Clippers put up 23 points compared to Morrison’s 18 to end the half. Scoring in the second was by Tiesman for 7, and Goessman for 2. In the third quarter, Amboy shot out to a 29-18 lead, a deficit that Morrison would never come out of. Morrison did regain their composure slightly, bringing the lead to within 8. The third quarter ended with a score of 23-34, with Amboy in the lead and giving Morrison a lot of work to do in the fourth quarter. The only scoring in the third came from Joe Mills with 2, Goessman with 3, Brad Sharp with 3, and Tim Houzenga with 2. In the fourth quarter, Amboy continued to build their lead, eventually taking the lead by 16, with a score of 31-47. Dan Brewer fouled out with 4:30 left on the clock, and it was then that Morrison started to look as if they had given up, but a few inspiring words by their Coach Dale Trott gave them a little bit of spirit, enough to fight for the rest of the game. They climbed back to within 6 but in the final minutes, though trying to stop the clock, Amboy’s score jumped to 55, while Morrison could finish out only with 46. Fourth quarter scoring was by Matt Vandermyde with 5, Luke Goessman and Casey Tiesman with 4, Nate Vock with 3, and Joe Mills with 2. Luke Goessman and Casey Tiesman tied for the most individual scoring, each with 13. Click Here to see photos from the game. by larryg |
