Mustangs Lose First Home Game in the End

The Morrison Mustangs hosted their first home game on January 9th. They hosted Riverdale in a night that was filled with action and excitement. The game began like no other this season, with the Mustangs jumping out in the lead 4-0 before Riverdale was able to put 3 points up on the board.

The Mustangs continued through the first quarter with a streak of scoring coming from Dan Brewer and Casey Tiesman, both with 4 points, and Matt Vandermyde, who put up 3. Morrison also held the Rams to only 4 points in the first, giving them a lead of 7 with a first quarter score of 11-4. In the second quarter, Morrison stalled out and was not very productive on the scoring side, with the only scoring coming from Joe Mills with a breakaway layup, and Matt Vandermyde, scoring 2 free throws. Riverdale was able to produce on their side of the ball, and by the last seconds of the half, they tied the score at 15.

Coming into the third quarter, Morrison knew that they had to regain their control of the game, but that would prove to be easier said than done, with Riverdale picking up the pace of the game and scoring whenever possible. Morrison responded and adjusted accordingly, but a string of 3 pointers by Riverdale put them in the lead 23-28, which made Morrison take a time out to reorganize, with 3 minutes to go in the third. At the end of the third, the score was 28-34, with Riverdale now in the lead. Scoring in the third for Morrison was led by Luke Goessman with 6, Matt Vandermyde with 4, Nate Vock with 2, and Casey Tiesman with 1. In the fourth quarter, Casey Tiesman brought the score to 36-39, with 4 minutes to go. As time wound down, the score remained at a three point difference at 40-43, with 1:36 to play. The score stayed at that until Morrison tried to foul Riverdale to stop the clock. Riverdale was very accurate with their free throws, and before the end Riverdale increased the difference to 7. The game ended with a final score of 48-41, a very tough ending to a great start for Morrison. Scoring in the fourth quarter came from Casey Tiesman with 8, followed by Matt Vandermyde with 4, and Luke Goessman with 1. The Mustangs are next in action Saturday night at home against Amboy.
