2004 Morrison Downtown Halloween Parade |
| Cold temperatures and high winds did not keep the ghosts and goblins from attending the Downtown Morrison Halloween Parade Saturday afternoon. Cottonwood 4-H Club bagged 198 bags of candy donated by all the area banks and credit unions and by the end of the parade all the bags were dispensed. As the children huddled and ate their candy under the bank canopy, parents chatted with each other, and the judges walked up and down looking for the scariest, most original, and funniest or cutest costumes. A prize was also given out for the best group or theme costume.
At 1:30 after the judges had picked the winner, the Morrison Police Department led the parade down Main Street to the Post Office where the crowd awaited the winning names. Heather Dykstra, of Cottonwood 4-H Club, announced the winners along with raffle prizes to the winning numbers. In the 0-3 year old category Riley Hudson was chosen cutest as Strawberry Shortcake, Addison Tiesman was the funniest in her duck costume, and Alex Steen was chosen most original as Candy Corn. Lydia Bender was chosen cutest in the 4-7 year old category as a flowerpot, Brandon Bardell had the scariest costume, and the most original was the book worn by Isabel Vanderbleek. All covered in cans, Adariane Willis won funniest in 8-12 year olds, Kaleb Church was the scariest with a scary mask, and Kelsey Snyder had the most original as a soccer ball. The most original theme or group prizes went to Trey Strating as a frog and Clara Bush as a flower. Pumpkins in their stroller and wagon surrounded the two. There were many other great costumes in the parade and to see some of them visit our Photo Album. A special thanks to all the businesses that generously donated candy and prizes to this special Morrison event: Dairy Queen, Wilson Greenhouses, Main Street Market, Casa Gomez, State Farm Insurance, Dr. Simpson, Movie Magic, Whiteside County 4-H, Hardees, Lincoln Highway Gifts, Community State Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, Metro Bank, Advantage One Credit Union, and Morrison Community Federal Credit Union. Also thanks go to the Morrison Chamber and Police Department for their help. But especially to the 4-H members that gathered the prizes, put up fliers, and bagged all the candy. by benson |
