October Fun at Heritage Canyon

by Stephanie Vavra
Crisp mornings, turning leaves, and lengthening shadows indicate that “Fall Festival” is just around the calendar corner at Heritage Canyon in Fulton, IL, 515 N. Fourth Street. Eleven buildings will be open to the public from 10:00 to 4:00 on Saturday, October 9 and Sunday, October 10.

Early American Crafters and guest crafters add to the ambiance of the weekend, some demonstrating a skill, others portraying a role in period dress. Observe as they chip-carve, make rope, cane chairs, spin, knit, weave rugs, and play folk instruments. Purchase a broom or carved spoon created for you on the spot.
In the 1860’s house, there will be a children’s tea while the mother dries apples. The doctor’s artist wife has prints of Canyon buildings for sale. Corn shelling will take place near the Iron Works.
The new consignment shop upstairs in the General Store has craft items for sale. Downstairs, you will find tempting bake-sale items, pickles, wooden toys, candy, homemade soap, and a booklet about Laura Ingalls, written by our resident schoolteacher.
Call Beth for details at (815) 589-2838. The “Fall Festival” weekend at Heritage Canyon has something for all ages to enjoy. Suggested donation: $2 for adults and $1 for students.
