“Harvest Fair” to Support Heritage Canyon

by Stephanie Vavra
On Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17 the Early American Crafters will host oodles of old-fashioned activities at the farm of Marc and Cathrine Gravert, 21919 Hillside Road, in rural Morrison, Illinois. Profits from this family event will be used for repairs, upkeep, and improvements of Heritage Canyon, Fulton, Illinois, a charming, replica 1800’s village on the banks of the Mississippi River. “Harvest Fair” hours are 10 to 9 Saturday and 10 to 5 Sunday.

Exciting events are planned for all ages. Both days will feature an antique tractor display; craft booth; horse-drawn or tractor wagon rides (on the hour); cake walk (noon to 1:00); wife- and husband-calling contests (11:30 to noon); petting zoo; face painting; horse-shoe practice (10:00-noon) and throwing contest (2:30); tug of war (1:00 to 1:30); vintage games; spelling bee (3:00); “Pick a Duck;” rock-throwing contest (3:30 to 4:00.)
Saturday’s schedule also includes antique tractor plowing from 1:30 to 2:30. From 5 to 8, listen to “Glory Bound,” participate in a sing-along, and enjoy the bonfire and wiener roast.
Barbeque sandwiches, hot dogs, chips, drinks, caramel apples, and baked goods will be sold at the food stand. Boy and Girl Scouts will volunteer their services.
The admission fees are $4 for adults and children ages 12 and above; $2 for children ages 3 to 11; toddlers age 2 and under are admitted with no charge. This entitles participants to most activities. There are small, additional charges for the cakewalk, face painting, and “Pick a Duck.”
Road signs will guide you to the Gravert farm, west of Morrison, and the “Harvest Fair.” For additional information about supporting Heritage Canyon, contact Beth at (815) 589-2838.
