Savanna River Pirate Four Race

Brad Pitt and The Pirates of the Caribbean won't be in Savanna for The Grand Excursion, but there will be pirates (of sorts) roaming Savanna's riverfront on June 26, 2004. The First Savanna Savings Bank will host a four-mile competitive run and recreational walk. The River Pirate 4 will begin at the southend of Marquette Park.

Brad Pitt and the Pirates of the Caribbean won’t be in Savanna for The Grand Excursion, but there will be Pirates (of sorts) roaming Savanna’s riverfront on Saturday morning, June 26, 2004, in hopes of securing a prize of pirate’s gold. The First Savanna Savings Bank will host a four-mile competitive run and recreational walk. The River Pirate 4 will begin at the south end of Marquette Park and traverse the bike path to a turnabout point and return to the finish line just outside the Savanna Marina. It will begin at 8 a.m.

Early registration is highly recommended. Commemorative t-shirts are guaranteed to early registrants along with a special race packet. Race fees are $10 for students, $12 for pre-registered adults, and $14 for registrations after June 22. Race entry forms can be obtained at the First Savanna Savings Bank or at other Savanna retail outlets. Race packets will be available for pickup on Friday afternoon in the First Savanna Savings Bank lobby. Race day signup will be available in the bank’s parking lot.

The River Pirate 4 will also feature a kid’s “Fun Run” beginning at 7”30 a.m. at the race’s starting line in Marquette Park. This “Fun Run” will be approximately ½ mile long and free of charge to all children 12 and under. Each child will receive a special “Pirates Treasure” goody bag upon crossing the finish line.

The adults will receive trophies and medals in 13 age groups for male and female finishers. The overall male and female winners will each receive a “Bag of Pirate’s Gold.” The awards ceremony will be held in the First Savanna Saving’s Bank parking lot immediately following the race. Beverages and snacks will be provided to race participants and volunteers. The post race party is co-sponsored by Ralph G’s Italian Restaurant.
