Southside Students to Perform at Morrison’s Heritage Museum |
|
| From 7:30 to 7:45 on Thursday, December 2, Morrison’s Heritage Museum will host a select group of fourth and fifth grade music students as part of the Christmas Walk activities. They will play seasonal carols on recorders amid a forest of evergreens in the cozy Hearth Room. Recorders originated in medieval times and became most popular during the Renaissance and Baroque eras. The famous German composer Johann Sebastian Bach wrote chamber music for recorders. The students’ instruments are authentic replicas with eight holes; sound is blown into one end, rather than across a mouthpiece, as with a flute. Recorders produce warm, mellow tones. Students auditioned for this performance ensemble, and 9 were chosen. They are directed by elementary music teacher Cynthia Perrizo. Beautiful Christmas decorations, traditional music, warmth, and good company make Morrison’s Heritage Museum a delightful stop on your walk through town December 2. The public is encouraged to attend this free concert. by Stephanie A. Vavra, Guest Columnist |
