Morrison Institute of Technology held its Prospective Student Open House on Saturday, November 13. Prospective students and parents were given a complete tour of the college. M.I.T. is a two-year Engineering Technology college specializing in Building and Highway Construction and Computer Aided Design and Drafting. In 21 months students will earn their Associate of Applied Science Degree. M.I.T. provides students with the latest computer technology and teachers who are professionals in their field and not by a textbook. The Accreditation Commission for the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (TAC ABET) accredits the college for its training excellence. Morrison is not only known for its excellence in engineering technology training, but is also known for the huge job potential for its graduates. A bulletin board placed in one of the main hallways is posted with numerous job opportunities for students to apply for or schedule interviews. Morrison consistently has more jobs than students who are graduating. The Building and Highway Construction program teaches students about building drawings, rendering techniques, construction materials, soils testing, surveying, bridge design, contour maps, topo maps, highway drawings, concrete testing, highway design, subdivision layouts and strength of materials in addition to valuable subjects utilized in the construction industry. The Computer Aided Design and Drafting program teaches students computer systems and applications, materials and processes, mechanical design, project design, strength of materials, engineering mechanics and general education courses related to the field. Nick Homerding, a May 2004 graduate heard about M.I.T.’s Open House and made a surprise visit. He talked first hand about his experiences at M.I.T. and their benefits for him landing a job with Schlichting and Sons Excavating, Inc., based out of Rockford, Illinois. Currently he is working on a Super Wal-Mart being built in the Rockford area. He told prospective students how his studies and classes, some of which he didn’t think were that important, have come into use everyday of his job, from doing work on the site, mathematic equations to the ability to write detailed reports. You can obtain more information about M.I.T and what it offers by visiting their website Click Here or by calling their Admissions Department at (815) 772-7218. The next scheduled Open House is Wednesday, December 8th beginning at 9:00 a.m. by Dawn Zuidema, theCity1.com |
