Needy Kids Funds Stolen

Morrison Police reported on November 8, 2004 that a donation jar for the Sauk Valley Marine Corps "Toys for Kids" located at the Morrison Hardee's restaurant had been stolen. The jar contained upwards of $70.00.(See Morrison Police Report 11-8-04 on our Home Page).

We contacted Roy Velde of Morrison who is in charge of the Toys for Kids campaign in Morrison and he confirmed that "yes, someone stole the entire jar with all the money in it." Mr. Velde informed us that the Marine Corps of the Sauk Valley organizes this annual event in order to raise money to purchase Christmas toys and gifts for Sauk Valley needy children ages infants to 12 years old. All purchases of the toys are dependent on the volunteer donations of citizens filling these jars and the gracious ability of area department stores to sell the toys at lower prices to the Marine group in order to make their dollars go farther.

Thecity1.com would like to offer a safe and secure donation jar location here at our office at 230 East Main Street in downtown Morrison (next to Community State Bank)in order to help replace the money stolen.

Or you can simply mail a check made to "Toys For Kids" and mail it to our address: TheCity1.com, 230 East Main Street, Morrison, IL 61270 until the campaign ends Dec 10, 2004 and we will forward to Roy Velde.

Don't let the action of someone selfish affect this year's Christmas for a youngster in our area. Should you have any questions you may call Roy Velde direct at 815-772-4024.
