Election Coverage

Thecity1.com will be covering the 2004 Elections on Tuesday through the Whiteside County Courthouse. Viewers will be able to link directly to the Courthouse from our front page. The Courthouse link will be active as soon as the first precinct comes in, and is updated as votes are recorded. You will be able to link to the results page by Click Here or clicking on the 2004 Election Results button at the top right of this page.

According to Dan Heusinkveld, Whiteside County Clerk, as of Saturday at noon there were a record number of absentee ballots cast with a total of 1,837. The previous record of 1,715 was set in 1992.

“We expect a big turnout in voting this time. We are hoping for 80% or more. The number of absentee voting tells me it will be very heavy. People are definite this time and want to vote. Most people have their minds made up on who they will vote for,” stated Dan.

Monday morning the County Clerk’s office was swamped with election judges picking up their “suitcases” filled with all of their supplies for set up at 5 a.m. Tuesday morning when the polls will open.

There is also a public display on the fourth floor of the courthouse with election results.
