Have You Seen 4-H in the Window?

To celebrate National 4-H Week, October 3-9, Whiteside County 4-H Clubs created window displays at businesses throughout the county. “4-H…Planting the Seeds of the Future” was the theme of the displays. “Window displays are a way that clubs can share their creativity and skills learned through 4-H with the community, while peaking the interest of potential members,” says University of Illinois Extension Community Worker, Karen Atkinson.

Congratulations to each of the six 4-H Clubs in Whiteside County that created displays for the 2004 Window Display Contest. The displays were in place from Monday, October 4 through Saturday, October 9, 2004. The goal of the contest is raise awareness of 4-H throughout the communities in Whiteside County.

Whiteside County currently enrolls about 300 youth and more than 100 adult volunteers in the 4-H program. 4-H is for anyone five to 18 years old and always welcomes adults as volunteer leaders or short-term resource person.

Second place went to the Genesee Hillbillies with their display at Northland Mall in Sterling. Spring Valley Hayshakers 4-H Club with a display at Mickley Insurance in Morrison captured third place.
