|
Ashlee Dirks of Morrison has been awarded the Golden Needle Award in memory of Jareldean Duncan Morgan during 4-H Achievement Night ceremonies held at the St. Peters Lutheran Church, in Morrison on October 23, 2004. This award is presented by the family of Jareldean Morgan to keep the enthusiasm Jareldean had for sewing alive in young people. Jareldean was the leader of the Erie Fancy Doers 4-H Club for 20 years. She dedicated many hours to teaching young people the craft of sewing. She began sewing when she was eight years old and continued to sew for family and friends for the next 74 years until her death on September 11, 1998. Jareldean was born on April 25, 1916 on her family’s farm near Erie, She married Frank Lewellyn Morgan, Jr. on February 23, 1937; and together they farmed for 40 years in the Erie area. Over the years Jareldean used her skills as a seamstress to make many wonderful garments for herself, family, and friends including a variety of square dancing shirts and dresses. Knowing the passion Jareldean had for sewing, her family is proud to present Ashlee the Golden Needle Award, in her memory, since she has shown a desire to learn the art of sewing. by Editor, theCity1.com |
