4-H… More Than Just the Farm

Do you think that 4-H is for rural kids only and all about animals? That isn’t true. Even though we live in the country we have never done an animal project. There are several different kinds of animal projects but we choose not to do them.

We have done many different types of projects like cooking, sewing, photography, visual arts, childcare, and camp craft. We have learned so much from these projects. There is something for every personality. Besides learning so much from the projects, we also get to be with our peers outside of school. We have made many of friends throughout the years. Everyone has a chance to be someone in 4-H.

Helping others is another opportunity we have had through 4-H. 4-H gives you a chance to volunteer. We have helped others by making hats and almond bark pretzels for Hospice. We also have done roadside clean up, plant flowers in Coleta, collect food for the food panty, sing Christmas Carols, helped out with Kid’s Corner at Hospice, and clean up the softball diamond in Lyndon.

Besides are monthly meeting, we do a several fun activities like the corn maze, a scavenger hunt, Christmas Caroling, and field trips. In July, our 4-H group went to the Field of Dreams and Marquette Caves. We do several workshops throughout the year.

What we are trying to say is that 4-H is not just for people that live in the country and have animals. It’s for everybody who wants to get to know lots of great people and learn more about something you like and have fun doing it.
